Riding at Granite Creek Guest Ranch
TRAIL RIDES
Trail rides begin at ranch headquarters at 6000 feet elevation and wind through
scenic meadows, dense forests and canyons, to high wind-swept ridges and
mountain trails above 7000 feet, with breathtaking views of the distant Teton Peaks.
Each day we have morning and afternoon rides of one hour up to 3+ hours.
CATTLE DRIVES
On our working cattle ranch, cattle drives move cattle from one pasture to another
on our 4000 acre ranch. Cattle drives take anywhere from 2-4 hours, depending on
how far we need to go and the terrain we are crossing.  We usually do these 2-3
days per week.  However we generally end up doing something with the cows every
day - there's always strays to move back where they are supposed to be.  We often
need to bring cattle into the corral for doctoring or sorting or branding.
Cattle drives move across varied terrain, as you can see from our pictures.  We have
gently rolling hills, lots of sagebrush, pine forest, aspen forest, and steeper hills.
Our guests think this is the most fun part of their trip, when they get to experience
the Old West.  These cattle drives will accommodate beginning riders and youngsters
(depending on riding ability) as well as experienced riders.
Guest comments:  "..the best part of the visit for us..",  "Good fun..", "The highlight
for us..a lot of fun!", "This is what we signed up for!  Loved them!"

Since we take only a limited number of guests at a time, we can offer a very flexible
schedule.  Our guests decide each day how long they want to ride.
Our wranglers will teach you how to saddle, ride, and care for your horse western style.
A riding arena is available for practice before hitting the trails.
We have horses for all levels of riding abilities, and we'll match you to a suitable horse.
HORSEMANSHIP RULES
Children under 7 have hand-led horse rides at headquarters instead of going out on
trail rides and cattle drives.
No bareback or double riding.
Single file riding
not required.  Many times the horses will fall into single file naturally,
especially on cow trails that are only wide enough for one animal at a time.  Good
thing you are in charge of your horse, since you can guide it off-trail to where you
want to go!
Allt of our riding is done at a walk (there's an old saying that the fastest way to move
cows is slowly).  The easy pace is also out of respect for our horses, for your safety,
and for the safety of others.
Have fun!
